The offer applies to new and existing customers. If you’re an existing HostGator hosting customer you can purchase additional hosting at this discounted rate, but you must fulfill the agreement on your existing services. In other words, you can’t cancel your current deal to opt in at the 40% off rate instead.
Existing clients may take full advantage of the discounted $5 domain name registrations. Domain name registrations through HostGator are typically $15 per year (for most TLDs). Even the deep down discount registrars usually charge around $10 per year, so $5 for a domain is a freakin’ sweet deal.
The discount only applies to the first hosting invoice and/or domains registered on Monday, October 22nd. VPS and Dedicated Server plans are only available on a monthly basis, but Shared and Reseller Hosting can be purchased at 2 and 3 year subscriptions – meaning there’s HUGE SAVINGS on those plans.

I’ve been using HostGator for nearly 2 years now, and I’ve found them to be a terrific web host. Their plans are very competitively priced, the uptime is great, and their support is responsive & friendly. For shared and reseller web hosting – I think they’re fantastic. I haven’t used them for VPS or Dedicated, so I can’t comment on those services. But…with 40% off your first month’s bill, now would be a good time to try them out if you’re considering a more robust plan like a VPS or Dedicated Server.
